Mes racines sont ancrées de part et d'autre de la Méditerrannée. Étendue vue par certain·es comme une frontière, elle est pour moi une passerelle, un lieu d'échanges et un lien entre deux continents. C'est ce même lien qui a permis la rencontre de mes parents et ma naissance.

Franisie est un projet de création d'illustrations qui reposent sur l'association, la collision de deux cultures, de deux continents, de deux pays, la France et la Tunisie. Pour symboliser cette dualité, chacune des illustrations est composée de deux éléments. Un évoquant la France et l'autre la Tunisie.

My roots are anchored on both sides of the Mediterranean. Seen by some as a border, it is for me a bridge, a place of exchange, and a link between two continents. It is this very link that allowed my parents to meet and me to be born.

Franisie is an illustration project based on the association, the collision of two cultures, two continents, two countries: France and Tunisia. To symbolize this duality, each illustration is composed of two elements: one evoking France and the other Tunisia.

Pour la première illustration, j'ai choisi de rendre hommage à mes deux grands-pères, Raymond et Mohamed. Le premier était agriculteur dans l'Oise où il produisait entre autre des betteraves sucrières. Le second portait quotidiennement une chéchia, le couvre-chef national tunisien.

J'ai choisi d'associer la betterave et la chéchia pour créer une illustration à leur mémoire. Mon envie est de créer à chaque fois une image atypique, absurde, iconoclaste, bref un visuel qui interpelle.

For the first illustration, I chose to pay tribute to my two grandfathers, Raymond and Mohamed. The former was a farmer in the Oise region of France, where he produced, among other things, sugar beetroots. The latter wore a chechia, the traditional Tunisian headdress, every day.

I chose to combine the beetroot and the chechia to create an illustration in their memory. My aim is to create an atypical, absurd, iconoclastic image each time—in short, a visual that grabs attention.

Processus

Je suis parti d'un dessin à la main pour travailler les formes, les proportions, la composition. Une fois le dessin préparatoire aboutit et scanné je l'ai travaillé sur Illustrator.

Travail qui m'a permis de préparer les trois calques pour l'impression en sérigraphie que j'ai réalisé avec l'aide d'Eva Largo de l'atelier Sobre Papel à Vincennes.

Process

I started with a hand-drawn sketch to work on the shapes, proportions, and composition. Once the preliminary drawing was complete and scanned, I worked on it in Illustrator.

This work allowed me to prepare the three layers for the screen printing, which I carried out with the help of Eva Largo from the Sobre Papel workshop in Vincennes.

Couleurs

J'ai fait le choix de couleurs denses et lumineuses : un magenta pur pour la betterave, un bordeaux pour le chéchia et un bleu Klein pour le fond. Grâce au fond contrasté, l'illustration est mise en valeur.

Colors

I chose rich, vibrant colors: pure magenta for the beetroot, burgundy for the fez, and Klein blue for the background. The contrasting background really makes the illustration stand out.

Lors de l'impression, j'ai testé plusieurs types de papier, dont un article du journal Libération dont le sujet était la lutte de la jeunesse… tunisienne.

During printing, I tested several types of paper, including an article from the newspaper Libération whose subject was the struggle of Tunisian youth.
